About SchoolMedDiet
Re-establishing the Mediterranean Diet in Mediterranean Schools
SchoolMedDiet responds to a pressing challenge: across the Mediterranean, rising childhood obesity and diet-related non-communicable diseases go hand in hand with the gradual erosion of the Mediterranean Diet and the food heritage behind it. Our project sets out to make the Mediterranean Diet the foundation of healthy, sustainable and inclusive school food systems once again.
Our Strategy
A Multi-Level Approach
Real, lasting change requires more than information. SchoolMedDiet combines three levers at once: behavioural change through hands-on, experiential learning; technological innovation through an AI Food Assistant and VR modules; and systemic transformation through greener public food procurement and supportive policy. Working together, these levers reshape the whole food environment around the child.
Our Vision
Youth as Agents of Change
By engaging students as co-creators, not just recipients, the project revives traditional food knowledge and cultural identity through intergenerational, school-based activities, and lays the foundations for a new generation of Mediterranean citizens who choose health, sustainability and solidarity through food.
