SchoolMedDiet
Bringing the Mediterranean Diet Back to the Heart of School Life
SchoolMedDiet is a transnational Innovation Action by the PRIMA programme that re-establishes the Mediterranean Diet as the cornerstone of healthy, sustainable and inclusive school food systems across the Mediterranean region.
By bringing together digital innovation, community engagement and policy transformation, we empower children, families, educators and public authorities to co-shape food environments that reflect Mediterranean values, for a new generation that chooses health, sustainability and solidarity through food.
A Living Lab in Every Country
We are establishing four national Living Labs in Greece, Malta, Morocco and Tunisia: participatory innovation ecosystems embedded in primary and secondary schools. Here, students, teachers, parents, municipalities, local farmers, SMEs, researchers and policymakers co-design, test and scale Mediterranean-diet practices, tailored to each local context yet connected through a shared framework for cross-country learning.
Technology at the Heart of the Project
Technology That Makes Healthy Eating Fun
Two flagship tools sit at the heart of SchoolMedDiet: an AI-powered Food Assistant app with a chatbot for personalised dietary guidance, and Virtual Reality learning modules that bring Mediterranean food heritage, sustainable agriculture and nutritional literacy to life. Co-designed with young users and enriched with gamification and storytelling, they turn everyday choices into lasting healthy habits.

VR Learning Modules
